Sarah and I talk about pregnancy and exercise, what you should and shouldn’t do with a pregnant client, pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, and what you as a group exercise instructor can do for your clients with pelvic girdle pain. We talk about diastasis recti abdominis or abdominal separation, and finally we spend quite a bit of time on Sarah’s favourite topic, urinary incontinence, on which she has recently published a book.
Towards the end of the interview Sarah gives in-depth instructions on how to do a pelvic floor contraction, and how to cue one. And, when to cue pelvic floor and when not to mention it!

Breathe has been an extremely inclusive, supportive environment where I have felt nurtured and supported for the entire 20 weeks. From the sales stage through to course completion, I cannot fault the crew. I aim to become an instructor of the same caliber in the future.

I was really excited when I decided to take the step to become a Pilates Instructor. When the time came to start the course I started questioning myself and whether I had what it takes. Now in my last week and the self doubt has gone and I am so proud of what I’ve achieved. This course was thorough, easy to understand and although it challenged me I had a lot of fun doing it. I’ve made some amazing friends and the instructors were so encouraging and welcoming. Thank you to the team at Breathe Education you are all fabulous x

I have just completed my Cert IV Pilates Matwork & Reformer training with Breathe Education. This was a 6 month online course. Initially I was worried about the online format, as I am a very visual/hands on learner. Zoom was fabulous and the explanations by all trainers, was very thorough. Having practice teaching sessions available on zoom was invaluable. I live in WA and worked out with others doing their breathe training in WA, SA, VIC & NZ. It actually made it a lot easier to get the hours in that were needed for this part of the course (and I am super excited about all the new pilates friends I have made around the country) I didn't realise until I started this course, how many of my favourite instructors were also Breathe trained. Seeing them comment in the Breathe Instructor FB groups was a real 'aha' moment for me, as I now see why they are the ones I want to go and work out with/learn from in my personal practice. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in joining the Pilates Industry. I am super excited about graduating and cannot wait to see where my new skills take me.

I have just completed my Cert IV with Breathe and was so impressed!Breathe made studying online so easy with an easy to navigate website and there was always someone there to ask if I had any questions. All of the trainers I met were very motivating and wanted all of us to succeed. I finished the course feeling industry ready and excited to start teaching!

I studied with Breathe this year and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. The trainers are encouraging and passionate, they encourage a collaborative learning environment which is always backed up by the most up to date guidelines.I had reservations about learning online but I felt really supported with lots of contact time and the online platform meant I could dip in and out when it suited my schedule. Breathe provide platforms for you to form relationships with other students and I'm leaving with some great friends.

Breathe Education has changed what Pilates means to me.I’ve been practicing Mat and Studio Pilates for over 20 years, so when 2020 disrupted my career, pursuing a Pilates Instructor qualification seemed like an interesting and meaningful use of my time.At first I was a little skeptical about some of the course content - it was different from what I’d known before as “Pilates” and in my other life I’ve been trained to rail against “Group Think”. All the staff at Breathe are 100% on message, 100% of the time - the “Is this a cult?!” alarm in my head was on standby! Before long I came to appreciate that literally everything covered in the course is backed up by high quality evidence. The Pilates exercises reference Joseph Pilates’ work as he published it. Appropriate exercise for stage of life was based on the American College of Sports Medicine’s Guidelines. Pain Science, Instructional Technique and Industry Knowledge were all backed up by extensive, referenced research. For such a charismatic group of instructors, there is not a single instance I can recall of an opinion being offered that wasn’t backed up by evidence.Beyond the ‘evidence’ I found a new level of joy in exploring and celebrating movement. Valuing effort over subjective perfection has led to a new kindness and acceptance of both myself and those around me.
04:17 16 Jun 21
Breathe Education has changed my whole world view of Pilates. I'm not someone to write a review normally, but from the start to the end of my Cert 4, I've had drastic changes in how I view movement, teaching and body positivity. Moving away from fear based teaching and instead empowering my clients by giving them the most enjoyable, rewarding movement experience has been fantastic. Go in with an open, critical mind and be prepared to come out knowing YOU REALLY KNOW YOUR STUFF.
04:16 16 Jun 21
Such a positive warm environment. The course has changed my skills as a pilates teacher but also i had a huge amount of self discovery. No matter who you are, your body shape, your confidence ect you are capable. Each of the teachers have blessed me with that recognition now. Forever grateful. No matter how dumb the questions seemed they had time and dedication to educate to above standard.
04:06 16 Jun 21
i had an amazing 20 weeks for cert 4. the idea of fearless movement and empowerment has been an amazing key takeaway.
14:35 14 Jun 21
I was a little sceptical at first about studying while working full time and the course being 100% online rather than a face to face setting, but I have just completed my Cert IV in Matwork and Reformer and it was the best thing I’ve ever done! This course is so well structured, I learnt more than I ever imagined I would. I am so grateful I chose to go through Breathe Education and have been taught evidence based Pilates with the most up to date research and am apart of this empowering community of people.
10:07 14 Jun 21
Breathe supports you every step of the way. There is a really good balance of theory and practical and lots of opportunities for practice. They help you build community within the course. The quality of the instructors and the feedback they give is fantastic. Breathe is also government accredited as an RTO which means high standards are guaranteed.

I loved every bit of my experience with Breath Education. I have just completed my cert IV in pilates matwork and reformer and can’t recommend my lecturer, Cloe, and my tutor, Venus, more!!!I was inspired to gain certification through Breathe as my favourite teacher at the studio I attend is a graduate and to me there is no higher praise than personal recommendation ☺️I loved the option to have a foldable reformer to complete my course on. The pace of learning was manageable alongside my full time job and I felt incredibly supported by my classmates. The sense of community is next level and I graduated with two job offers and feeling extremely confident and ready to start my next chapter!! Thanks so much ♥️♥️

Definitely Pilates changed my life for the better. Breathe Education made this transition to be made in the best possible way. Thank you Breathe Education for everything. Taking the plunge to start the Cert IV Pilates was both daunting and exciting! I remember my first live tutorial, I was so nervous...... but those nerves didn't stay for long. The Breathe Team were nothing but amazing, they made me feel so comfortable. The course content is so up to date and relevant not only in working life but in general. After finishing the Cert IV I found myself wanting to know more so I enrolled straight away in the Diploma of Clinical and have not been dissapointed. When I started this journey I didnt know where it would take me but as time went on my vision became clearer and Iam now living my dream and loving every minute of it! I can honestly say I could never have done it without the kindness, support and knowledge of the Breathe Team and all my class peers. The experience on a whole has been life changing.

I cannot believe this! I have just completed my course! Breathe Education found its way into my Facebook feed and now, today, I have successfully completed the course. I have learnt so much, I am a qualified Pilates Instructor because of you 👈 !! I will honour this achievement, I am proud of myself and I thank you, all of you, for your confidence in me. Special shout out to Sharrman, my fearless Trainer, Heath for his endless time, Venus for her beautiful smile and all of the support team (esp Lizzie) 🥰. Lizzie B !!!

Before enrolling in the Diploma course I thought I had a deep understanding of how the body worked and was super interested in learning how to apply pilates in a clinical setting. Now I am just one third of they way through the course and I'm amazed at how much of what I thought I 'Knew already" is now outdated research! Before enrolling I was concerned with studying full time whilst working full time, though I shouldn't have worried as Breathe have made this super achievable with the course being mostly work at your own pace. If i fall a week or so behind with my E-learning or miss a masterclass here or there due to outside commitments, everything is recorded so I can just catch up when I have the time and I am loving the flexibility that brings.I'm really looking forward to the next two modules as we are deep diving into the nitty gritty of the human anatomy and building on our skills practically applying this knowledge in a clinical setting.

Pre Module Kristina - loved teaching pilates but felt she needed more knowledge and understanding of the body and how movement could assist in recovery, general maintenance and strength building. I actually had no idea what to expect and have been blown away by the journey I have embarked on with Breathe. The course has been challenging for me (I am not super confident) and the course material has been more detailed and thorough than I imagined. Module 1 has challenged my previous beliefs and conceptions and taught me so much about the human mind and body (from Pain/Brain, biopsychosocial factors impact on injury, recovery, pain tolerance and threshold). Post Module 1 Kristina now appreciates there is a much larger landscape to consider when dealing with clients and how important it is to provide client based care. Also the importance of getting the client moving and building a trust relationship with the client so you can help them achieve their goals. Heath you are an amazing teacher and mentor. You have the perfect amount of challenge and guidance when we are doing masterclasses or tutorials. Your knowledge blows me away and you manage to simplify the complex so I can comprehend it (albeit it may take a bit to sink in) . It is very evident how passionate you are about your teaching and your students learning journey and I thank you very much for that. My understanding of movement teaching has changed dramatically. I now understand that pain comes from the brain, that our bodies are resilient and that once cleared of red flags and outside tissue healing time we need to gradually load and work towards strength programmes for clients. I now challenge my clients more and feel more confident with the sessions i am teaching.
01:03 06 May 21
Such an empowering course! Definitely recommend. I'd only ever been on a reformer once in my life, but now I feel I can do the reformer moves plus learnt a few more mat moves. Trainer was empathic and easy to learn from, reassured me and others as and when we needed it. I am so grateful to have been brave enough to sign up to the course plus finish it. Thank you Breathe. Fabulously run course with excellent resources!
05:24 05 May 21
Before beginning the diploma I wasn't certain how much I'd get out of it. Being a PT and having taught group classes for years, I knew there was so much more to learn but I wasn't sure what exactly that was and where to find it.I knew I could trust the educators at Breathe to deliver a good course and I'm so glad I did. It's completely transformed the way I think about the body, pain and movement, the way I teach and the way I communicate with clients.I can confidently tackle 'tricky' clients I would usually shy away from. I now know I have the tools to help clients get the best possible results in terms of their health and fitness.Heath is a bloody amazing tutor. His classes are engaging and thought-provoking. He encourages us to question the status quo and let go of rigid, out-dated ideas that are often ingrained in the Pilates world.I'm learning to teach in a way that finally feels authentic to me. Learning to apply critical thinking to everything from my personal held beliefs to things in the media, has made me appreciate my role as a teacher so much more.I look forward to expanding my knowledge with the Breathe team over the course of the diploma.
02:17 05 May 21
one word: COMMUNITY.Breathe Education has been extremely warm, kind and supportive in this journey and have welcomed me to an amazing community of like minded people- so grateful!
02:17 05 May 21
I would highly recommend them! They are a company full of fantastic teachers who are full of knowledge, support and energy. Breathe Educations flexibility allowed me to take on a new career and passion which I would have otherwise found impossible to achieve. So thank you!

Breathe Education is hands down the best Pilates education available. In their Cert IV course, I love how I continued to learned current evidence-based practices from a such a supportive team. I cannot recommend Breathe Education enough.
12:55 04 May 21
The support, content and culture that Breathe offer is truly amazing! I have loved the course and the team are incredible. They are extremely supportive through the community they have created and the tools they have given us to make us industry ready. I couldn’t recommend Breathe more highly.

Mind Blown! I have a masters of physiotherapy and Certifications III and IV in fitness, and I was absolutely blown away by how much I learned and grew over the past 20 weeks doing the Certificate IV in Pilates Instruction through Breathe Education. Learning online was a perfect option for me as I was never available to attend live lectures, so I watched them all later in the week when I was available. The team at Breathe provide each student with a comprehensive and clear outline of everything they need to do and when they need to do it and how they can go about doing it. Every week, for 20 weeks, we were required to watch a 1.5 lecture, attend and participate in a 1.5 hour live online tutorial, attend 2 masterclasses offered online and teach two 10 minute blocks in practice teaching sessions online set up through the student portal using an app called Slack. Everyone from all the team members at Breathe to all of the previous and current students of Breathe Education were encouraging and helpful. I was apprehensive about learning online, as I did my Cert III in Fitness online. This was nothing like that. This was a very inclusive course. Everyone worked together. I never felt like I was having to teach this course to myself. I've made some fantastic friends along the way even though I've haven't met any of my classmates in person. I put a lot of work into this course and I believe it has truly made me into an infinitely better movement instructor.
10:21 03 May 21
I have been studying with Breathe Education and they have been amazing, the support you receive throughout the course is 5 star, when you are unsure or have a question, the trainers and the support staff are always happy to help.I also found the course very flexible, it fit into my busy schedule, I could study in my own time and complete my modules with ease.I found the trainers so fun always ready to have a laugh and to put your mind at ease.I am so happy I did my course through breathe. I would highly recommend.
07:18 03 May 21
This has been hands down one of the top experiences of my life! Seriously. It's awoken all these new curiosities and rabbit holes that I can't wait to go further down. It's made me question things I've learned in the past and the amount of info that has been debunked has A. blown my mind and B. turned me into a better instructor! I feel more confident and am 100% sure that my clients have been able to tell a difference. Would recommend over and over again. Can't do my Diploma yet, but yall better believe I'll be jumping on that bandwagon too! Thanks to all the amazing instructors and support staff. I'm sad we're at the end!

I have just competed week 20 with Breathe Education - Certificate 4 in Mat and Reformer. I am studying while working full time and am excited to introduce Pilates teaching as my side hustle. The Breathe Education experience has been amazing; including the online format of the course which offers the perfect balance of teacher led lectures/Tutorials, Live and recorded masterclasses and sense community. All of the teachers at Breathe are exceptional and will both support and challenge you, plus the curriculum is based on the latest research and proven methodologies. I work in the corporate world as my day job and had never worked as a fitness trainer, however im excited to say that this course gives me everything you need to be a confident and successful Pilates trainer. I highly recommend Breathe Education.
02:57 03 May 21
I have raved about my experience with Breathe to anyone and everyone that will listen. I've been undertaking the Certificate IV and am loving my experience so much that I am going to continue on and do the Diploma. I never thought I would be able to become a Pilates instructor but with the constant empowerment and support from everyone in the Breathe community - especially the trainers, I have become so much more confident in myself and my ability and I encourage anyone who wants to go down this pathway but is hesitant within themselves - to just take the plunge, you will not regret it. The research and evidence is second to none and the education breaks all barriers surrounding fear and restriction in movement. Could not recommend more!

Breathe has been an amazing, comprehensive mat and reformer Pilates course which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in getting started in the Pilates industry. Breathe base their teaching on the most current evidence and have such high quality teachers to guide you through both the certificate 4 and Diploma. All from the comfort of your home!10/10 would definitely recommend.

I have been extremely impressed by the high quality of information, communication and efficiency of delivery by Breathe Education. I already had my reformer and matwork Pilates certification, but was looking for more. After studying the Cert IV in Pilates Matwork and Reformer I have greater confidence in my ability as an instructor.Content (drawn from scientific evidence) is regularly updated to improve education and practice. There is transparency around sources of information. Questions and curiousity are encouraged. There is emphasis on challenging misinformation and myths within the Pilates sphere, and empowering clients to move fearlessly.I was initially hesitant at the prospect of doing the qualification online; I have found previous online study lacks engagement. However, I was pleased to find there was regular online video contact with trainers and fellow students, as well as live classes. Studying online instead of coming in to a space for face-to-face delivery was convenient and adaptable to my schedule. It also gave me the chance to make friends with students from many different locations.I would recommend Breathe Education in a heartbeat. In fact, I already do!
00:00 03 May 21
Breathe Education is a great place to learn with great master trainers. It's a funny time in the industry with asking yourself what to say, who to be, what kind of instructor you want to be and they help you and allow you to be your true self. I have completed my cert 4 and now studying the diploma. My biggest take away would be the amazing information and knowledge that I learn from Heath. He helps you understand everything and puts on the best master classes!! A massive contribution to the course.
22:42 02 May 21
For me Breathe Education has changed my world! Coming into this - I thought that I was going to learn Pilates. That did happen but I learned so much more .... I learned more about myself, I gained confidence not only in my teaching but in my every day life , I learned to stop second guessing myself and my ability in all aspects. I learned how to think critically and move fearlessly and learned how amazing and strong and robust our bodies are ! Breathe education have nailed this course - from the online structure to the content to the trainers , oh the trainers ! Can not thank the trainers enough! There is never a question that will not be answered and their willingness and patience in making sure everyone is happy before they move on is incredible. The whole BE community is something pretty darn special!!!

The Breathe Diploma of Clinical Pilates Diploma has great content and online delivery, with regular learning opportunities throughout the week. Breathe’s emphasises on evidence-based best practise and critical thinking makes me feel confident that I’m giving my clients the best current movement guidance. I love Breathe’s concept of fearless movement - who wouldn’t want this for themselves or their clients? Before the course started I was a bit concerned about the expense - but with a lecture, tutorial, coursework and masterclasses each week I am getting value for money. Plus, the educators are amazingly responsive and available to answer questions and give help. Cloe has been super supportive in my weekly tutorials. Heath gives the Diploma Masterclasses and these are so helpful. His simple, scalable approach and tool kit of repertoire is awesome and has helped me take Raph's lecture content and put them into practise. I’ve learnt so much and can’t wait for the next two semesters.

After many years working in the Pilates industry I decided to 'go back to school' and I have recently begun studying the Diploma with Breathe Education. I was somewhat concerned that my previous Pilates training wouldn't be a good fit, as it was from a different school with different ideas, and that I would struggle with the coursework which was to be delivered online. But I did understand Breathe Education had a good foundation in teaching and that they were well known for presenting up-to-date information so I went ahead.Best decision ever! I knew after the first lecture that it would work. Well structured and researched lesson plans, engaging content, access to real Pilates trainers with decades of experience and know-how, plus it is obvious they are 100% interested in their students learning AND thinking by facilitating small group tutorials that are challenging yet at the same time supportive. You learn as much in the tutorials as you do in the coursework.I look forward to continuing through the rest of the Diploma.(The only bad thing is it will eventually end!)

Completing the Certificate 4 and now the Diploma in Clinical Pilates have been the two most amazing journeys in my professional career and personal growth. Every week, I am like a wide-eyed 4-year-old looking forward to lectures by Raph, followed by rolling and jumping around during Masterclasses, and then eagerly sharing my newfound knowledge with my fellow course mates or whoever is willing to listen to me at home.Pain is in your head. But it is real. As a health professional for 20 years, the most challenging clinical presentation is still chronic pain. Yet a lot of time, I became so focussed with finding the pathology and trying to “solve the pain” such that I forgot about the person. If the repertoire of pilates exercises constitutes the bread and butter for pilates instructors, module 1 of Clinical Diploma which focusses on biopsychosocial model is the essence for a pilates teacher. The 14 weeks of lectures have been the most mind opening, engaging and challenging lectures that I have attended. Raph has managed to condense all the evidence-based literature into very practical and easy-to-digest lectures. It has challenged many of my preconceptions and beliefs, and encouraged critical thinking. There are no stupid questions and all the tutors were so ready to answer my questions. I have started to apply this knowledge to my interaction and engagement with my patients/clients. It has changed the way I see pain. The concept that our body is anti fragile and that movement is the solution to many of our ailments is truly empowering.Fear is in your head. But it is real. The Masterclasses that supplemented the course content has been nothing short of transformative. As a chronic sufferer of back pain, I used to believe that my pain is caused by kyphosis and that carrying heavy weight was the trigger for my pain. But Heath who was the Masterclass instructor (or the wizard of movement), has the ability to push me to overcome my fear. Within 3 months, I have gone from someone who could hardly do a knee push up to be able to kick up to wall handstand. It is true that your practitioner’s ( or teacher / sensei/ sifu) belief influences your belief. It is now perhaps my turn to spread the fearless movement. Heath has said the goal for handstand practice was handstand push up. If you had asked me 3 months ago, I would have told you “that was impossible”. Now, my answer is ”why not?”

Choosing to go with Breathe Education for my Pilates qualification was a great decision that has continuously paid off since I graduated. Not only do hiring studios look highly upon the qualification, but Breathe, the course, and their tutors empowered me the entire way through to become confident in who I was as an instructor, not pressuring me to have to fit a pre-designed mould. They are also very accommodating in being able to fit the course commitments to your own schedule. The whole team at Breathe are a dream to study with!
00:01 19 Mar 21
The Breathe team is made up of truly inspiring, supportive and knowledge instructors and I loved my journey with them! Would highly recommend this course to those looking for the next step in their pilates journey.
00:09 18 Mar 21
I could not recommend Breathe Education any more highly! They have curated such a professional, nurturing, and intelligent community full of like-minded and passionate people. The online learning experience is second to none, and you can expect to graduate the course with every skill you could ever need in the world of Pilates instruction!

Breathe has fully supported and empowered me throughout this whole course all while being pregnant myself. I was worried about how I would manage the course but I was met with so much encouragement and support that I always felt included and safe. All the instructors are just wonderful people who genuinely want to help you to get the most out of the course and challenge you to be the best version of yourself. The course was brilliantly presented and organised. If this course was not delivered online I would have not been able to complete it. The fact that all components of the course could be completed online made it so accessible to me. Thanks to all the Breathe staff for helping me through the course, I am so grateful.
10:11 17 Mar 21
Breathe has helped me so much throughout this course. Especially my main tutor Venus. It is such a safe environment to learn and feel free to make mistakes. Doing this course has helped me to feel so much more confident in myself and feel ready to go out into the Industry :)

Breathe Education is an amazing course. The course is online based so you can do it anywhere and at a time that suits you! I had enjoyed my time learning from NZ and they have lots of different time for the tutorials to fit in my schedule. The trainers have been so amazing teaching the fundamentals of Pilates and teaching content with up to date scientific background. The trainers really love what they do, and it shows! I always look forward to classes and tutorials:)The online practice teaching also allowed us to meet, connect, support and motivate each other as we worked towards the same goal. Everyone is so positive and encouraging. I really enjoyed my time with Breathe Education (and I am looking to do their diploma in the future haha). Highly recommend to people looking to further themselves in teaching and in Pilates.Thank you everyone!
