Life as a Pilates Studio Owner

Veteran Pilates studio owner Laura Saggers describes why owning a Pilates studio in Melbourne felt like a natural step and shares some of her preparation to ensure a smooth start to her fledgling business. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Laura’s carefully thought out business plan had to flex to meet social distancing rules, so Laura explains what she did to keep the studio running virtually.

Learning to Let Go

One of the key lessons to learn as a studio owner is when it’s time to let go of what you do to allow more time to grow as a business. No matter how much you love teaching, you have to understand that you can’t teach all the classes when you’re trying to operate a successful business. Opening and running a studio is itself a skill set and a job — And it’s not the same job as being a Pilates instructor.

Building a Team of Instructors

Laura gives her insights on building an awesome team of instructors to teach at your Pilates studio. We discuss the importance of fostering a positive culture because, as an owner, you care about the instructors and your clients, and you care about giving everyone an excellent experience. Laura also shares why she is passionate about making her team feel supported, understood, and heard and why she tries to inspire and empower the instructors that work for her.
