Reacting Positively to Setbacks

Bouncing back after a setback can be challenging — a lot of us link our feeling of self-worth and our identity with what we are most passionate about, so as a Pilates teacher, it can hurt if we receive what we perceive to be ‘negative’ feedback. But, how can we retain our commitment and enthusiasm when things don’t quite go to plan? On the show, we discuss how to use a perceived setback as a space to grow.

What is a Growth Mindset?

A positive growth mindset is a belief that you can grow and improve your skills through practice and perseverance. Whereas the opposite, a fixed mindset, is a notion that our qualities or aptitudes are set and unlikely to evolve. If you are in the right headspace to develop and improve your skills, then your effort and perseverance are likely to be rewarded.

Constructive Feedback

Part of fostering a growth mindset is understanding the role that constructive feedback plays in getting to the next level. Feedback is an opportunity and a necessary ingredient for learning and improving your skills and is a valuable method of understanding how you can improve. It can be easy to become discouraged when trying something new, but you should open yourself fearlessly to people who can support and nurture you in your development.

Cloe is fascinated by movement in general, and its ability to enhance our lives, at any age. Her own movement practice includes Contrology/Pilates, running, weights, and kettlebells. She has a Diploma of Clinical Pilates, Cert IV in Pilates, and Cert IV in Training and Assessing.
